Opportunities With The 2012 London Olympics

It’s time to start thinking ahead!
Okay, I know. The logo is terrible… but what’s a logo when there’s opportunity in the air?
Procurement for the London 2012 olympics is already in full swing, so for those of you who missed the boat on the Vancouver olympics now might be a good time to start planning for the future.
A great place to start is the London 2012 website. It contains most of the guidelines for what is being purchased and when.
Here’s the general idea, straight from the horse’s mouth:
We expect to have around 7,000 direct contracts which, together with our suppliers, will form supply chains of around 75,000 opportunities.
They range from construction, engineering and manufacturing to creative, merchandising and retail.
London 2012 will directly buy and manage a comparatively small number of contracts with tier one suppliers or contractors.
Most of the opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are likely to come from further down the supply chains.
The long and the short of it is: if you’re large enough to go after big construction, marketing, or other supply contracts, jump on the opportunity.
If you’re a bit smaller but still capable of delivering services to the UK (either on-site or remotely), one great way to tap into some of the contracts awarded to larger firms is to market directly to those firms. Here’s how:
1. Register on CompeteFor.com as a supplier. This is the system used to advertise tenders related to the 2012 Olympics.
2. Click on “opportunity search”.
3. Select “awarded” in the opportunity status. This will give you a list of which contracts were awarded and to whom.
Once you have a list of contract awards, you can simply find opportunities that might be relevant to your business and get in touch with the awarded organization. Chances are good that companies will be scrambling to fulfill the contract requirements and will be open to help from knowledgeable subcontractors.
However, you’ll need to act quickly… 2012 is fast approaching and new opportunities are sprouting up daily.
